Vascular surgeon turned winemaker Robert Lusby established Tintilla Estate in 1994, building his winery along the Hunter Valley's star studded Hermitage Road in 2005. A family business, today son James is the winemaker.
Inspired by the wine traditions of Tuscany and Burgundy, Tintilla Estate grow the classic Hunter Valley varieties: Shiraz on slopes of clay and limestone, Semillon on alluvial creek bed soils, and Chardonnay on a limestone laden block. They also pioneered Hunter Valley Sangiovese. Set amidst olive trees, the vineyard has a Mediterranean climate. The low yielding vines produce rich fruit flavours, delivering the taste of the Hunter Valley in the wines.
Tintilla Estate reflect old world tradition in a modern Hunter style. Patriarch Syrah is the lead, the Reserve Shiraz and Angus Semillon close behind. They also produce olives and olive oils from the trees that line the vineyard.
